This study discusses the law on polygamous marriage in Indonesia and compares it with several other countries, namely Sudan, Pakistan, Turkey, and Tunisia. Polygamy in Indonesia is permitted under Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage and the Compilation of Islamic Law, with certain conditions such as the consent of the wife, the ability to be fair, and permission from the court. This study shows that Indonesia, Sudan, and Pakistan have similarities in allowing polygamy with certain restrictions and conditions, while Turkey and Tunisia strictly prohibit it and impose sanctions on violators. This comparison illustrates the differences in legal approaches between countries, which are influenced by their respective social and cultural contexts and interpretations of Islamic law.
